but they fell in love.

They would ask for the stories

over and over,

and then read them themselves

over and over.

That book is the reason that the child fell in love with fairy tales.

Once upon a time, almost two years ago, the child turned young adult wrote their first fairy tale adaptation. It was an assignment for a writing class, but the adult found their passion in writing fairy tale adaptations. The words flowed from their fingers,

a dance of magic

and horror

and love.

The tales engaged in feminism

and queer theory

and disability studies.

The young adult loved it all.

Once upon a now, the young adult is working on a book manuscript. It is an anthology of all of the fairy tale adaptations they have written. It is still a work in progress, but it will be published. They are determined for it to be so.
