I completed all of the different parts of this assignment, and I addressed all of the questions for the reflection. This assignment was easy to complete.

The first visual assignment I made was the visual story, “The Beauty of Nature.” I really enjoyed making the image for this, but writing the story for it was hard. The image was fun because it was nice to make this whimsical image using a simple picture of a gopher, and I really like the way the lineless style turned out. Writing the story was hard because while I had a concept in mind, I didn’t know how to turn that into a narrative. I did complete the assignment fully, however. If I did this assignment again, I would try to outline what I wanted to say in the short story to give it more focus. Overall, I wanted this piece to look at both how we as humans disturb nature, through how the gopher was driven out of its den at night despite being diurnal, and how it is the simple things in life that gives it meaning, through the beauty of the night sky.

The second visual assignment I made was the visual story, “A Bad Birthday.” This story was very personal given how it is a creative nonfiction story about a really bad birthday party I had. The image is less connected to the story, as it is a Halloween photo I edited to look like a birthday photo, but I think it works well to convey the energy that I had in the story. This assignment was fully completed, and I like the way it turned out. It isn’t my favorite or my least favorite, but I like how I tied in the “Bluey” episode in the end because it was relating my experiences now to my experiences back then. Nothing in this assignment gave me trouble. This story isn’t connected to very large societal issue, but instead it connects to the way that families can unintentionally hurt you through favoring one specific member, which is something I feel many families go through.

The third visual assignment I made was the visual story, “Punch Buggy.” This story was one of my favorites to make. I was already experienced in pixel art, so I was really excited to make a more complex image within the style. I really like how nostalgic the image looks because it really fits the tone of the story. I did have trouble with the size of the image. I was not able to make the image larger whilst still keeping the quality of the pixels. I like how the story was focused on one small moment; it really added to the feeling of nostalgia for me. If I were to make this assignment again, I would figure out a way to fix the resolution of the pixel art. This story is built upon the feelings of nostalgia and good family moments, and it talks about those feelings using the road trip as a way to create experiences.

The fourth visual assignment I made was the visual story, “The Fearsome Pit.” The message behind this story is my favorite. This story is working to dismantle the stereotype that the Pitbull is a harmful or dangerous set of breeds. This message is important to me as someone who has pits and as someone who knows that they have more love than brain cells in their brains. I like the way the image turned out because the style is really nice, but if I were to do this assignment again, I would try to increase the luminosity more in the part on the left so that the dog looks less scary due to being in the darkness. These images both really show how stupid and loveable these dogs are, so I want that to be conveyed as much as possible. The written aspect was a little less focused than I wanted it to be, but I think it does work to serve the message.

The last visual assignment I made was the visual story, “Inner Self.” This story was really hard to make. Because it is based on a video game, “Celeste,” it was hard to make the story different from the game whilst still being based on the game. I think the little comic strip I made was good; it was funny, but I don’t really like the actual story to go along with it. I don’t think I strayed far enough from what happens in the game. If I were to make this assignment again, I would use a game that is not a narrative game. That way it will be easier for me to move away from the actual story of the game. There are not any larger social issues or messages within the piece.

I created three Daily Creates for this week.

The first of my Daily Creates was for the prompt titled “Misleading Signs” The Daily Create can be found using the tags #tdc4995 #ds106 Misleading signs. The Daily Create I made is the image below.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://ds106.acemolloy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Ace-Molloy-Daily-Create-Misleading-sign-1-768x1024.png" alt="A lost cat sign with an orange and white kitten on it. I went on Canva to find different templates for the misleading sign, and when I saw the missing cat sign, I knew I could make a fun Daily Create. The template is great, the creator did a great job making the graphic design. I like the text I added because it feels relatable as a pet owner. It feels like something I would send to my friends that we would all bond over. If I were to create this Daily Create again, I would just exaggerate the misleading sign even more in the text. This Daily Create, while it did stir my creativity, it did not connect to wider cultural issues.

The second of my Daily Creates was for the prompt titled “Play Mundango a game about enjoying the small things in life.” The Daily Create can be found using the tags #tdc4997 #ds106 Play Mundango a game about enjoying the small things in life. The Daily Create I made is the image below.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="452" src="https://ds106.acemolloy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Ace-Molloy-Daily-Create-Mundango-1024x452.png" alt="An image of a Mundango board. It was enjoyable to complete because it was a calming exercise. However, it does not feel like I created anything with this. If I were to complete this assignment again, I would use the completed Mundango board to make a piece of art. That could be by writing a short story about the ordinary things or taking a photo of some of the visual tasks. This Daily Create does discuss the larger social issue of how our American society has lost the ability to simply be; we are too fast-paced. This is why the Mundango board is needed.

The last of my Daily Creates was for the prompt titled “Arrrrgh! It Be Talk Like A Pirate Day!” The Daily Create can be found using the tags #tdc4998 #ds106 Arrrrgh! It Be Talk Like A Pirate Day! The Daily Create I made is the text below.

“Arrgh! What’d I tell ya, matey?! Heave the ship! Blimey, avast, scallywag! Heave the ship now! Savvy?”

This Daily Create was enjoyable to make, and it was took more thought than I expected it to. I wanted the imply a story in the text. This story is how the listener is a bit absentminded and failed to do the task the narrator has given. That story gave a lot of chances to talk like a pirate. I really like how the tone and voice was in the story despite it being only two lines of text. This prompt did its job of inspiring creativity. However, despite the text having a larger story, that story does not connect to any larger societal issues.

During this week, I made five visual assignments using Clip Studio Paint Ex, one unit summary, and three Daily Creates.
